Not really, the decision there would really be based on source material, CPU power, display used etc. It's free though, so you have a no-cost choice there! It could be a Matroska container, but AVI is probably more common for that! I never watch these at all on my regular pc, i stream them all to other rooms from the nas via pc (tversity) and xbox 360's. On my NAS i have loads of tv series, mostly in avi / h.264 /xvid format The hard drive will be used almost exclusively for tv recordings. and also MCE Standby Tool, recommended by FunkyMonkey Windvd Plus Bluray will be installed for watching discs.

So far, it is a completely clean install with nothing but Vista tv pack on it. havn't quite decided on that due to all the other stuff i have! Going to be connected iether via DVI to my Hitachi 42PD7200 PlasmaĪnd via optical to my Yamaha rx-v357 reciever
Sorry for lengthy post, but it always seems more helpful to me to give as much background as possible before asking for help and suggestions. However when it comes to my new HTPC, i am a total noob ! When it comes to regular pc's and programs, i considered myself to be very competent, and all self taught.
